What hospitals in TN want from CM Vijay Govt?: Delegation meets Health Minister with key recommendations for healthcare sector (Part-1)

Association of Healthcare Providers (India)-Tamil Nadu Chapter met TN Health Minister Dr.K.G.Arunraj in Chennai on June 11th 2026 with its recommendations for health sector in the State.

MADURAI: A set of key recommendations to strengthen healthcare ecosystem in Tamil Nadu were submitted to Tamil Nadu Health Minister Dr.K.G.Arunraj in Chennai on June 11th 2026 with focus on electricity tariff, biomedical waste management reforms, development of medical tourism hubs and inclusion of healthcare as State infrastructure priority sector.

The office-bearers of Association of Healthcare Providers (India)-Tamil Nadu Chapter met the Health Minister at Secretariat in Chennai with their recommendations to further strengthen the State’s position as healthcare capital of India.

One of the appeals made was for rationalization of electricity tariff for hospitals and the AHPI-TN team had urged Tamil Nadu State government to classify healthcare under a separate ‘Essential Public Service’ tariff category and provide power tariff parity with educational institutions so as to reduce operational costs for healthcare facilities in the State and thereby make it affordable for patients.

The AHPI-TN delegation that met the Health Minister comprised its president Dr.Sathish Devadoss (vice-chairman of Devadoss Hospital in Madurai) and secretary Mr.J.Adel (founder & COO of FLAB Healthcare) along with vice-president Mrs.Gayathri Sandeep (CEO-Seethapathy Clinic and Hospital in Chennai), treasurer Ms.Sandhya Cherian (vice-president of Frontier Lifeline Hospital-Chennai) and Dr.Balamurugan, COO of Dr.Muthu’s Hospital.

REFORMS FOR BIOMEDICAL WASTE:

A specific recommendation was mooted by the delegation asking for a State-level coordination committee to oversee biomedical waste management, promote advanced waste segregation technologies and enable public-private partnerships for waste treatment facilities.

“Development of Medical Value Travel (MVT) Hubs in Tamil Nadu to enhance healthcare hubs in Tier-2 cities like Madurai, Tiruchi and Coimbatore to attract medical tourists with global promotional support, deeper collaboration between government and private hospitals in screening of non-communicable diseases, tele-medicine etc, implementing of healthcare infrastructure promotion policy by giving stamp duty concessions, capital subsidies for advanced medical technology, property tax relief for hospitals to encourage healthcare expansion in emerging regions, and inclusion of healthcare in the State infrastructure priority sector to facilitate easier access to financing and large-scale investments in healthcare are among the other key recommendations highlighted by AHPI-TN in its meeting with Tamil Nadu Health Minister in Chennai on June 11th 2026,” according to a press release received from the association yesterday.

AHPI-TN is an influential body in health sector representing large, medium and small private healthcare providers across Tamil Nadu and it is engaged in policy advocacy, capacity building and knowledge-sharing initiatives in healthcare delivery.
