MADURAI: Healthy thoughts will come from healthy persons with healthy thoughts who are committed for having a healthy society around them.
The famous ancient Madurai soil which is known as a great temple spot in our country also became a good healing place for treatment of patients way back in the 1950s itself thanks to the vision of a person called Dr.P. Vadamalayan who sowed the seeds as founder of Vadamalayan Hospitals in Madurai.
This hospital which was started as a nursing home in the year 1957 had now grown to the level of a well-known super speciality hospital thanks to the founder’s vision and the second generation’s mission in making the name Vadamalayan a top brand name in health sector.
“We are entering into 70th year on coming September 15th. It is a momentous occasion for all of us in the hospital because what was started by my father late Dr.P.Vadamalayan as a small clinic in Palace Road in Madurai grew to the next stage of opening a nursing home in this same location in Chokkikulam in the year 1957 and it has now become a renowned institution. We are planning to hold some events during the 70th year to mark the seven decades of our healthy journey in health field,” Dr.Pugalagiri Vadamalayan, Chairman and Managing Director, Vadamalayan Hospitals, has said in Madurai while speaking to ‘Lotus Times’ media in Madurai on August 10th 2026.
A GREAT START BY GREAT LEADER:
Inaugurated on September 15th 1957 by the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu K.Kamaraj, the Vadamalayan Nursing Home had evolved as a hallmark in healthcare and it became a landmark in Madurai by emerging as a super speciality hospital.
“Today, we are a 200-bedded hospital with top class medical infrastructure and speciality doctors. The reason for our growth is definitely the trust of people in the name Vadamalayan because the founder had a vision and people from all walks of life come here for treatment,” the hospital CMD has said and stressed that carrying forward the legacy of his father is the driving mantra that made it possible to reach the milestone of seven decades.
Dr.V.Pugalagiri says that he and his family thinks every morning that patients who are coming to the hospital should get good treatment for their ailment and “those who come with agony must go happy by coming out of sickness.”
He shares with a sense of emotion that what he saw and observed from his father is motivating him to take Vadamalayan Hospitals to the next level by executing a few expansion plans in the coming years.
“My father passed away in the year 1972 when I was 18 years old…Passion and compassion were his special traits and these two will guide us as we move forward by entering into 70th year,” Dr.Pugalagiri Vadamalayan has said.
With a strong presence in Madurai and Dindigul already, this hospital is also pioneering healthcare education through its Vadamalayan Institute of Medical and Allied Health Sciences which is producing skilled manpower for health sector.
