MADURAI: Aditya Birla Capital is contributing Rs.1.5 crores for a cervical cancer project to be undertaken by Rotary Club of Mulund for screening and vaccination of women and girls in Mumbai and Thane through awareness programs in schools and slums.

“This vital support from AB Capital will enable us to create awareness about cervical cancer, screening and vaccination of young girls in under served communities. It is a proud moment for Rotary Club of Mulund and as project chairman I am delighted to share this happy news,” Mr.Ashok Mahajan who served in the Rotary International in various top positions, has said in a press statement issued from Mumbai today- May 26th 2025.

He thanked industrialist-philanthropist Ms.Rajashree Birla (who was born in Madurai in Tamil Nadu) for supporting the Rotary project because it will a collaboration to protect and empower lives.

“It is very encouraging that we got an assurance of an additional grant of the same amount and this will allow us to extend our reach. Mrs.Rajashree Birla Ji has committed contributions for various service projects of Rotary. The cervical cancer project will be implemented in municipal schools by specifically targeting girls in the age group of 9 to 14 years. The project includes HPV vaccination in two doses with a six-month interval,” Mr.Ashok Mahajan has said.

He also informed today that awareness campaigns and screening camps for women living in slum areas will be conducted, for early detection and prevention of cervical cancer.

“In future, we may even think of facilitating surgical intervention. We are considering potential support through Birla Cancer Hospital. But, at the moment, we thank AB Capital and Mrs.Rajashree Birla (mother of industrialist Mr.Kumar Mangalam Birla) for sanctioning Rs.1.5 crores for the screening and vaccination project. We also thank the Municipal Commissioner of Thane and the Chief Secretary of Government of Maharashtra,” Mr.Ashok Mahajan has said in his statement today-May 26th 2025.
