MADURAI: An 80-year-old man Abdul Rahim died in police lathicharge at Karupayoorani in Madurai on 6th April 2020 morning.
The police who were going on rounds to prevent crowds near shops had noticed a large number of people near a shop there. They tried to disperse the crowd in that area. Since the people had not responded, police tried to send them away.
They resorted to lathi-charge and in that melee, old man Abdul Rahim had fallen down and became unconscious. His family members took him to Madurai GRH but he died on the way. The old man is running a Chicken shop.
Angry family members and relatives had resorted to protest and road blockade. After police held talks, they took the body and left. Karuppayoorani police have registered a case and are enquiring, according to information received here from sources.
