How journalists must fight fake news in today’s scenario?: Press Information Bureau-Chennai holds orientation program for journalists at Karaikudi

MADURAI: The Press Information Bureau Chennai had organized an oreintation program at Karaikudi in Tamil Nadu for journalists to enhance thier media skills on how to focus on socio-economic development issues and at the same time fight the fake news in the present digital era.

A special program was conducted for mediapersons at CSIR-Central Electrochemical Reseach Insttiute (CECRI) in Karaikudi on October 8th 2025 where the emphasis was on the way in which journalists have to give importance to socio economic development while at the same time develop the media skills for the current digital age.

Mr.V.Palanichamy, Director General in-charge of PIB South Zone, who was the chief guest had urged the journalists to give due importance to news related to socio-economic development and to fight the fake news in the present days.

Mr.V.Santhanam, Regional Director, National Insttiute of Open Schooling, had explained how students can enrol and pass classes 8, 10 and 12 through NIOS so that school dropout rates in the country can be reduced.

Ms.K.Shalini Sushmita, Deputy Commissioner of GST, had elborated on the recently introduced GST 2.0 reforms while Dr.D.Jonas Davidson, Chief Scientist at CECRI-Karaikudi had explained about the ongoing research projects.

S.Pravin Kumar, District Lead Bank Manager (Indian Overseas Bank) of Sivaganga district, A.Azhagudurai, Media and Communications Officer of the Press Information Bureau, J.Boswell Asir, field publicity assistant of the Central Bureau of Communication-Madurai, Dr.Johnson, Head of Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Alagappa University were among those who had coordinated this orientation program conducted by the PIB at Karaikudi for journalists and journalism students.
