Madurai Kabilan selected for Rangeland Award; To be presented in Mongolia on August 18th

MADURAI: Dr.P.Kabilan, a well-known pastoral rights activist and founder of Madurai-based ‘Thozhuvam’, has been selected as winner of Rangeland Restoration Award 2026 under the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP-2026) in recognition of his dedicated work for protecting the pastoral community and grasslands.

He received an official communication from Rangeland Restoration Award Committee and this award will be presented to him at a global event to be held in Mongolia on August 18th 2026.

Dr.P.Kabilan is serving as vice-principal and associate professor in Department of Computer Science at Madurai Kamaraj University College (MKU College in Madurai).

“I dedicate this recognition to the pastoral communities of Tamil Nadu and I thank ‘Thozhuvam’, Grass Guards, NABARD-MABIF, TNAU Agricultural College & Research Institute in Madurai, MKU College, BONbLOC Technologies Pvt Ltd and to our researchers and volunteers for their continuous support,” Dr.P.Kabilan has said in a statement here on July 7th 2026.

Madurai Kabilan was selected from 90 nominations received across 26 countries and the awardees were selected by a group of representatives from different organizations.

Mr.P.Vivekanandan, Executive Director, SEVA has sent the award intimation letter to Dr.P.Kabilan a couple of days back with details about Rangeland Restoration Awards and the International Year of Rangeland and Pastoralists 2026.
