MADURAI: A retired college employee in Sivakasi who did not receive his retirement benefits even 18 months after his retirement due to a designation issue had reportedly suffered severe heart attack and was admitted in a private hospital there on October 18th 2026.

According to information received today, Mr.K.Sherif who worked as an assistant at Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College in Sivakasi had retired more than one and half years back, but his retirement benefits were not settled till now.

“While working as an assistant, Mr.K.Sherif was demoted by the ANJA College management and made to work as a Training Instructor. He challenged this and got a favourable order through his appeal under Section 20 of the Tamil Nadu Private Colleges (Regulation) Act,1976. But, the order was not implemented by the college management, and he was also denied retirement benefits and pension even though he retired on May 31st 2025,” the Tamil Nadu Government-Aided College Staff Association’s Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College Branch-Sivakasi, has said in a press release on October 22nd 2026.

Condemning the delay in settling retirement benefits to Mr.K.Sherif who is a former State general secretary of the association, the press release had pointed out that a retired employee like him should not suffer because of demotion dispute as already “his appeal was examined by the Director of Collegiate Education and reportedly held that the demotion was improper”.

COLLEGE MANAGEMENT’S DELAY:

The association has said that the delay is happening as the college Secretary had challenged the Director of College Education’s orders before the court.

“As this case remains pending, the issue concerning Mr.K.Sherif’s retirement benefits has continued without any resolution. Some questions arise in this matter on why the college management did not take steps to change his designation to Training Instructor at the time of demotion, and why the management did not forward his pension proposal to competent authorities based on his Assistant designation, subject to the applicable rules and the status of the pending litigation,” the association had asked and expressed concern about his health condition because an open-heart surgery is planned in next few days.

Demanding for immediate steps to settle and disburse retirement benefits legally to Mr.K.Sherif, the Tamil Nadu Government-Aided College Staff Association had also appealed through its ANJA College Branch at Sivakasi calling for an impartial enquiry into the reasons for delay.
