MADURAI: For all the people of Madurai who are eager to see their city clean, there is a good initiative from the action brigade of Tamil Nadu Science Forum here to make Madurai free of garbage and find practical solutions for garbage waste disposal.

The science forum team had shown its resolve in this direction by organizing ‘garbage walk’ in Madurai city on June 28th 2026 to create awareness on garbage management by joining hands with the civic authorities and involve the local residents in all areas in this mission.

“Tamil Nadu Science Forum-Madurai had organized this morning walk today from MGR vaigai bridge near Annamalai Theatre in Simmakkal up to Puttuthoppu east Anna thoppu near Sellur bridge. In-charge Mayor Mr.T.Nagarajan had flagged off the first morning walk today and he said that garbage management is a top focus of Madurai Corporation and plans are in full swing for converting waste into gas and electricity,” according to a press release from the Tamil Nadu Science Forum in Madurai today.

Prof.P.Rajamanickam, science forum member, has informed that early morning walk will be conducted in Madurai on every last Sunday of the month in different areas of the city and a people’s report will be prepared and submitted to Madurai Corporation Commissioner soon with a realistic action plan based on public feedback.

The Tamil Nadu Science Forum’s Madurai team also wants to hold a science conference on ‘clean city and healthy city’ so that an action-oriented programme on garbage issues could be implemented in Madurai corporation areas.

Among those who led the garbage walk today include Dr.S.Dinakaran. former State president of Tamil Nadu Science Forum along with Madurai district president Dr.R.Antony Paul, district secretary Dr.K.Kannan, district treasurer Vennila and Deepam Self Help Group secretary Radhika along with science forum members and volunteers, the press release added.
