How to maintain good health after 60?: Easy tips given from Madurai at National Senior Citizens Day event

MADURAI: Easy tips were suggested on how to maintain good health after 60 years of age at a special programme conducted in MADITSSIA Hall in Madurai today by Consortium of Service Organisations in Tamilnadu (CONSORT) which is a network for capacity building of NGOs in the State.

“Old age is also an important phase of your life after your retirement to share your wisdom and experience. Digital for all ages is the theme for this year’s National Senior Citizens Day and we are going to conduct special programs for the elderly persons with focus on health, wealth and wisdom,” Mr.M.Muthukumarasamy, Trustee, CONSORT, has said while speaking at National Senior Citizens Day function in Madurai on August 21st 2026 where experts spoke about meaningful ageing.

Physiotherapy specialist Dr.Gurumurugan spoke about how laughing and clapping therapy can help mental and physical well-being if people who touched 60 years age can understand ageing issues and if they go for physiotherapy checkup once in six months.

PHYSIOTHERAPY AWARENESS:

“There are simple sitting and sleeping postures, respiration/ breathing exercises and walking methods to be easily followed in daily routine. Don’t walk immediately after waking up from the bed in the morning. Just stand for one minute to get the balance and equilibrium. This can prevent falling…. please remember that old age is also a right age and definitely muscle power can be maintained with simple body movements and physiotherapy awareness for neck, cervical movements etc,” Dr.Gurumurugan has said in his brief speech about physiotherapy and celebrating age with contribution and dignity.

Dr.A.G.Alwar Ramanujam, Chairman, Bharathi Infinity Hospitals-Madurai, Dr.Krishnamooorthy, Foundation Director, CARE and Mr.M.Sundar, training manager, SBI General Insurance were among those invited to speak on health and wellness topics.

Dr.Tamilisai Soundararajan, Former Governor of Telangana and Puducherry, was the chief guest for CONSORT event in Madurai today and she had presented awards to five individuals for their dedicated service to society and the award recipients include former Vice-Chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University Dr.M.Lakshmanan (age 96 years) and Mrs.Premalatha Paneerselvam, founder of Mahatma Montessori Higher Secondary School in Madurai.

Dr.R.Jayaraman, president of CONSORT, has said that the concept of CONSORT is to make NGOs function effectively with transparency and use of funds properly for right causes.

MADITSSIA president Mr.V.Senthikumar and CONSORT executive director Mr.Vijayan Raman were among those who addressed the senior citizens along with CONSORT trustee Dr.T.Arumugam and secretary Mr.Raja Mohamed.
