MADURAI: Former Governor of Telangana and Puducherry Dr.Mrs.Tamilisai Soundararajan had today urged the young generation to take care of their parents and grandparents at all ages and stages of their life because without parents there are no children.
“My appeal to the society from Madurai today is don’t ignore your elderly parents. Take care of parents because we came from our parents only. This is my appeal to the new GEN Z in India. I always think and thank my parents daily because I am here because of them only. Old age home is not the solution and taking care of our parents happily daily must be our life mission,” she said in Madurai today-August 21st 2026.
Dr.Mrs.Tamilisai Soundararajan was speaking as chief guest at the National Senior Citizens Day 2026 event held at MADITSSIA Hall in Madurai, which was organized by Consortium of Service Organisations in Tamil Nadu (CONSORT) by inviting senior citizens and to honour a few individuals from across the State who have been rendering service to the community for the past few decades in their respective fields.
HONOURING THE WISDOM OF OUR ELDERS:
The awardees who were specially honoured by the former Governor include – fair trade expert Dr.K.Panchaksharam, Mrs.Premalatha Paneerselvam (founder of Mahatma Group of Schools in Madurai), Mrs.Nagaswarna Lakshminarayanan, Dr.M.Lakshmanan (96-years-old former Vice-Chancellor of MKU) and Dr.Balasubramanian who is known as a ten rupees doctor to treat the poor people.
Dr.R.Jayaraman, retired senior professor of MKU and CONSORT president, has said in his presidential address that the National Senior Citizens Day 2026 which was conducted in Madurai today was an occasion to celebrate the wisdom and experience of senior citizens who had put in more than three decades of work experience in their respective fields.
The theme for this year is ‘Digital for All Ages’ and among those who addressed the senior citizens event in Madurai today include CONSORT team- executive director Mr.Vijayan Raman and vice-president Mr.Alagarsamy along with Dr.T.Arumugam, former Vice-Chancellor of Thiruvalluvar University and Trustee of CONSORT besides its secretary Mr.Raja Mohamed.
