MADURAI: The ‘Save MKU Coalition’ is holding a public discussion in Madurai on August 17th 2025 to take stock of the crisis faced by Madurai Kamaraj University and elicit suggestions to find a solution to restore the past glory of this varsity.

All stakeholders of MKU including the present teaching and non-teaching staff, retired faculty, pensioners, civil society representatives, students’ associations and all those who are concerned about the university’s future are invited to attend this round table threadbare discussion and put forward some solutions.

“What we are doing now as a first step is to organise a public discussion. We want the general public and stakeholders to come forward and share their thoughts. The university is facing various types of problems like huge financial crunch, administrative issues, students requirements and infrastructure shortage etc. This public hearing is not to criticize anybody but to look at the situation with a positive approach and suggest a roadmap to recovery,” Prof.Dr.R.Murali, secretary, Save MKU Coalition, told ‘Lotus Times’ here today.

He said that various associations like MUTA and MUFA along with non-teaching staff and students associations associations besides MKU Pensioners Association and a cross section of academic fraternity will attend the public discussion which will be held at Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer Community Hall in K.K.Nagar in Madurai from 10 am to 5 pm on August 17th 2025.

“The decaying status of MKU is a matter of concern for all of us. Through this public hearing, we want to draw the State government’s attention to save the university by providing adequate funding support for salary and pension every month. We will take up research scholars issues and students’ needs also in this meeting. A consolidated report on the outcome of this discussion will be circulated to the government officials and we will also put it in public domain,” Dr.R.Murali added.
