MADURAI: In the wake of layoffs being announced by IT companies and its huge negative impact on fresh graduates passing out of engineering colleges in the country, top career consultant from Tamil Nadu- Mr.Jayaprakash Gandhi has today cautioned that it is just a beginning and it is time for students and colleges to understand the latest hiring trends in IT industry.

“I kept saying and warning about layoffs in IT industry for the last 15 months. A few people criticized my views, but now it is a harsh reality. The time has come for corrective measures to meet substantial challenges ahead. Please be updated with the current hiring practices,” he said expressing his open and frank views in a statement today- July 28th 2025.

Urging the students and parents not to go blindly with social media messages about engineering colleges, he suggested them to focus on core engineering branches also due to the changing trends in IT sector.

“The IT sector is poised for continuous expansion, yet the companies’ hiring practices are undergoing a significant transformation. A reduction in mass fresher recruitment is anticipated in coming days with a shift towards hiring individuals who are possessing emerging skills sets with specialization,” Mr.Jayaprakash Gandhi had cautioned today.

He predicts that assessments in future will increasingly incorporate IQ, EQ and TQ (Technology Quotient) evaluations for both entry level and experienced professionals. “But unfortunately, a concerning number of engineering colleges and other educational institutions remain unaware of the evolving IT landscape and the future hiring strategies by IT companies,” he added.

The top career consultant has today expressed concern that many colleges are still utilizing outdated training modules and some of them were implemented a decade ago.

Urging the engineering colleges to make a quick transition from theoretical to practical learning methodologies, Mr.Jayaprakash Gandhi has also stressed that conventional engineering curricula should be integrated with emerging skills and future-oriented technology career pathways.

“Failure to implement corrective measures now will result in substantial challenges for fresh graduates seeking employment. Students must select good colleges for engineering admission,” he said in his message.
