MADURAI: The ‘Save MKU Coalition’ which has been fighting for the progress and welfare of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) here has today demanded the Tamil Nadu State government to provide at least Rs.100 crores to meet the salary expenses every year and that it should not be stopped by citing administrative problems.

“We demand the government which claims that Tamil Nadu is ahead in higher education to provide funds for resolving the salary and pension issues of MKU employees. If the situation continues like this, there is also a danger of this university seeking private financial assistance. If the government does not find a solution to MKU salary and pension problems, then the people’s movements in our State will have to take up protests to protect this university in Madurai,” Prof.A.Srinivasan, president and Prof.R.Murali, general secretary of ‘Save MKU Coalition’ have said in a press release here today- June 17th 2025.

They expressed concern that MKU staff are working without receiving their salaries regularly and right now the university employees are yet to receive May month salary.

“The State government is refusing to provide funds to MKU by citing audit objections. It is the responsibility of Finance Officer of this university and government secretaries to correct the audit issues. Employees and pensioners should not be made as scapegoats for administrative irregularities. If universities have to generate funds, they too have to collect money from students like self-financing institutions. So, we appeal to the government that the resources and infrastructure of MKU should not be rented out to private agencies for mobilizing funds,” Prof.A.Srinivasan and Prof.R.Murali of ‘Save MKU Coalition’ had urged the State government today and pointed out how salaries are being delayed for months together in MKU.
