MADURAI: Leading and popular heart specialist in Madurai Dr.A.Mathavan has made an important observation in his interview to CoverPoint magazine journalist Shastry V Mallady in January 2022 and that is now being reproduced in ‘Lotus Times’ today- on November 11th 2024. The excerpts:
Senior interventional cardiologist Dr.A.Mathavan from Madurai has made an important observation based on his very long experience in the field of heart care. It is found that heart attacks occur early morning 3 am to 6 am due to various internal reasons in the body. And, it is also found from his medical data that several heart attacks and stroke cases are happening in the early hours of Monday morning.
“The reasons have to be fully analysed, but it is a fact that more heart attacks are being reported on Monday early mornings. This could be because people spend Sunday holiday in a relaxed manner during the day, and maybe when they go to bed on Sunday night, their mental stress levels are rising while thinking about the Monday work pressure which is the first working day of the week and an important day in any office,” he said while speaking to CoverPoint journalist Shastry V Mallady in Madurai in January 2022.
“Cardiac statistics are saying that Monday mornings are bad and especially this is for those who are in the risk factors zone-diabetes, smoking, hypertension and stress. Usually blood pressure BP dips in the midnight. For some people, BP will increase in the night and these people are becoming more prone to heart attacks and strokes in the early hours of Monday morning,” Dr.A.Mathavan, founder of Dr.Madhavan’s Heart Centre at Pandikovil junction-Vikram Hospital building, says.
His general but important advice is to avoid heavy exercises and go only for doing exercises in moderation. Lentils, groundnuts and peanuts are good. “You can eat and do everything in moderation except smoking. Those who have the habit of smoking must quit that immediately,” he cautions in January 2022.
