
MADURAI: In a swift action, Madurai Corporation authorities have today sealed and locked 35 shops in Madurai city for not complying with the crowd control measures announced to prevent spread of Coronavirus through Section 144 curfew and total lockdown.
On 31st March 2020, the civic body inspection teams ordered for closure of 35 shops follwoing the strict instructions from Corporation Commissioner Mr.S.Visakan. The shops are located at East Marret Street, Yanaikkal, Munichalai, Vilakkuthoon and Vengalakadai Street, according to a press release from the corporation here today. These shops will remian sealed and closed till further orders.
Tody, Mr.Visakan inspected the areas where mobile vegetable shops were pressed into service in a bid to prevent large crowds in vegetable markets in the city. He carried out inspection at Ponnagaram in Ward 12 and Grummerpuram in Ward 15. He urged the local people to follow social distancing which is very important to prevent Coronavirus infection spread.
The Madurai Corporation Commissioner also went to various other places here including Yanaikkal Kalpalam, Surveyor Colony 120-feet road, Race Course Road, Apollo-Aavin Junction, New Jail Road Karimedu Market area etc and he made mike announcements urging the people to cooperate in enforcing social distancing and to stay at home till the lockdown period gets over.

Among those officials who were present during the Corporation Commissioner’s inspection inlcude Assistant Commissioner Mr.Sekhar and Assistant Executive Engineer Mr.Arogiya Xavier.
