
MADURAI: The Madurai Corporation has taken steps for availability of food for the poor, needy and deserving sections through Amma Canteens and community kitchen.
On 25th March 2020, Madurai Corporation Commissioner Mr.S.Visakan had visited and inspected various places in the city after Section 144 ande complete lockdown was announced to fight the spread of Coronavirus across Tamil Nadu and all over India.
While separate places to provide shelter for those on roadside pavements was ensured by the civic authorities in all the four zones of corporation, there is also a community kitchen started at Poonga Murugan Temple near Gandhi Museum in the city where around 600 persons are being provided food, according to a press release from the Corporation here today.
There are 12 ‘Amma Canteens’ in Madurai city providing food in the morning, afternoon and at night at a very subsidized rate. The Commissioner also inspected the sanitation measures undertaken by spraying of disinfectants and germ killing chemicals at four Masi Streets, Nethaji Street etc.
Among those who were present during the Corporation Commissioner’s inspection today include senior officials Mr.Arasu, Mr.Palanisamy, Mr.Premkumar and others.
