Corona impact: Car, auto and taxi drivers’ appeal (Video)

MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu All Drivers Association has appealed to the State Government and Chief Minister Mtr.Edappadi K.Palanisami to consider giving adequate compensation to car, auto and taxi drivers because of loss of income to them due to Section 144 imposed to prevent spread of Coronavirus.

Mr.Mrugesan, Madurai district president, Tamil Nadu All Drivers Association, told reporters in Madurai on 23rd March 2020 that there are more than 15,000 drivers in Tamil Nadu are severely impacted because of restrictions in the wake of Section 144 which prohibits public movement.

“Most of the drivers are dependent on their daily income for running their families….Section 144 came into effect on 24th March and since it will be there for some more days, drivers lost their income. All borders of the State have been closed. Taxi, car and auto drivers lost their livelihood,” the association members said here.

Hence, they have urged the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to provide some relief compensation amount to the drivers and also take steps for extending their loan repayment EMIs in view of the current crisis faced by drivers all over the State due to Coronavirus – Section 144 impact.
