
CHENNAI: DMK president and Opposition leader Mr.M.K.Stalin has today announced that the part MLAs will boycott the remaining days of the ongoing Tamil Nadu Assembly session from 23rd March 2020 in view of Coronavirus threat and in the interest of people of the State.
He wrote a letter to the Assembly Speaker in this regard informing him that the DMK MLAs and the party firmly believes that preventive and precautionary measures need to be taken to contain the virus spread at this stage on the lines of ‘Varumun Kappom.’
“I have already appealed to the Tamil Nadu Government to suspend the current Assembly session by heeding the alerts and warnings about Coronavirus. The advice given for us to go for self quarantine, avoid large gatherings and groups, isolation and follow the health alerts given…..Yet the State government is continuing the Assembly proceedings. It is saddening that our appeal to suspend the Assembly session is not considered,” Mr.Stalin has said in his letter to the Speaker.
The DMK president and Opposition leader also pointed out that three districts in Tamil Nadu including Chennai and Kancheepuram were put under lock down mode by the Central government to prevent the virus spread. CBSE exams were cancelled and employees were asked to stay at home or work from home for the next few days.
“So, in such a situation I want to inform you that our DMK MLAs will not attend the session from today- 23rd March 2020, Our MLAs have to be with the people in their constituencies at this stage and help them,” Mr.Stalin said in the latter, a copy of which was released to the media.
