MKU joins Keeladi study, MoU with Harvard (video)

MADURAI: The exciting excavation and archaeological studies which are now underway at historic Keeladi village in Sivaganga district in Tamil Nadu is set to get more momentum as the Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) too joining the extensive studies and tests.

“With the permission of Tamil Nadu government, our university is going to study from the point of genetic aspects. Our expert team shall do solid DNA tests etc from the ancient materials and particles collected from Keeladi excavation site,” MKU Vice-Chancellor Prof.Dr.M.Krishnan, told ‘Lotus Times’ news website here on October 10th 2019. 
 
MKU experts with vast genetic background academically such as Dr.Pitchappan can contribute a lot to this study and tests. The university will have a tripartite agreement – a MoU with Harvard University and Tamil Nadu government. “Our duty is only to analysis and tests. Our work ends with submitting a report to the State government, that’s all” the Vice-Chancellor said.
 
 
 
The archaeology excavations at Keeladi near Madurai has already generated lot of public interest since preliminary reports suggested that the ancient Sangam era human settlements existed there, dating back to 6th century and that people even lived there more than 2,500 years ago. The exact details are yet to come from the site study.
 
Excavation works are being carried presently by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and Tamil Nadu Archaeology Department. All eyes are now on Keeladi.
