MADURAI: Amidst the soaring political heat during election campaign in Madurai yesterday, there were a few fragrant moments with personal touch that brought happiness to the political leaders, organisers and audience.
One such moment took place at Union Minister Mr.Piyush Goyal’s visit to Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry at Kamarajar Salai in Madurai on April 12th 2026 where he addressed an interaction meeting with traders and industry representatives.
“The TN Chamber president Dr.N.Jegatheesan and his team gave me a beautiful book about Madurai jasmine. I know about jasmine flower but I had no clue about the greatness of ‘Madurai Malligai’. I will show this book to my wife. Really, the book is amazing to see and I thank the TN Chamber for presenting me a few good books about this great Madurai,” the Union Minister and senior BJP leader Mr.Piyush Goyal who looked thrilled has said with a sense of excitement and delighted to see the colourful book ‘Madurai Malligai’ that was presented to him.
(Madurai Malligai is a 300-odd pages colourful book authored by Dr.Uma Kannan from Madurai with a theme of celebration of jasmine flower and the uniqueness of this jasmine flower variety grown in Madurai area…..Madurai and its jasmine, a celebration).
Responding to the request made by TN Chamber president Dr.N.Jegatheesan to promote jasmine flower exports from Madurai because Madurai Malli is unique, the Union Commerce and Industry Minster had assured that his Ministry will take all efforts for getting GI tag to Madurai Malli (Madurai jasmine flower variety) and for its exports. The top BJP was in Madurai yesterday as a part of his election campaign for the coming assembly elections in the State.
