MADURAI: For those who are interested and passionate to know about Tamil Nadu’s ancient history, archaeology, excavations, rare artefacts etc, there is a great chance to see them directly by themselves in a special gallery for the next two days- January 23rd and January 24th 2026.

The Department of Archaeology of Government of Tamil Nadu is conducting a three-day international sysmposium on ‘Recent scientific studies in archaeology of Tamil Nadu’ at Hotel Courtyard-Marriott on Alagarkoil Road in Madurai.

Mr.Thangam Thennarasu, Minister of Finance, Archaeology, Environment and Climate Change in Government of Tamil Nadu, had inaugurated the speciallly created temporary museum gallery and international symposium in Madurai today-January 22nd 2026.

“The Tamil Nadu government led by our Chief Minister Mr.M.K.Stalin has put all its energies and efforts for this great field called archaeology with a scientific approach and evidence based findings through excavations,” the Minister said today.

Dr.K.Balakrishnan IAS, chairman, International Institute of Tamil Studies and Roja Muthiah Research Library-Chennai, has said at the inaugural session today that Tamil Nadu stands out in archaeology as a distinct leader with its evidence based field studies.

“History is indispensable. History is to learn from the past and navigate our future. But, we are worried these days about some scientific institutions talking in unscientific language about history and archaeology,” he added.

Madurai District Collector Mr.K.J.Praveen Kumar has said that archaeology has seen a quantum jump due to the importance given to it by Tamil Nadu State govenrment and Keeladi is one of the examples to prove that.
