
MADURAI: As the first day of GST 2.0 kicked off on September 22nd, the country had witnessed a huge consumer frenzy due to double bonanza of tax cuts and Navaratri offers.
“There was a record smashing day one on September 22nd 2025 and it will be etched in the memory of auto dealers and shopkeepers. The first day has seen with a thunderous applause from households and consumers for the GST 2.0 rolled out by Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi’s government as Diwali gift to the people of India on the first day of Navaratri festival. There was a relief to the common man due to the reformed tax regime and it was a reason to rejoice for the lower prices,” according to a press release received from the Press Information Bureau yesterday.
CAR SHOWROOMS AND AUTOMOBILE SECTOR:
The central government has said that automobile sector stole the spotlight with historic sales numbers as the new GST structure had reduced car prices.
“On Day 1 of GST 2.0, Maruto recorded 80,000 enquiries and delivered 30,000 cars, its highest single day performance in 35 years. Bookings for small cars surged 50 per cent compared to usual festival rates. Dealer billings for Hyundai also shot up to 11,000 on the first day (September 22nd 2025) representing its best performance in five years. Tata Motors had recorded 10,000 car deliveries and over 25,000 enquiries on the first day of Navaratri and there is a growing order book. For countless families, GST 2.0 had transformed long postponed dreams into reality and automobiles now became more accessible, and it is a true festival purchase on the first day,” the PIB press release has said citing data taken from various sources.
ELECTRONICS AND AIR-CONDITIONERS:
There was a huge positive impact on sales of electronics and air-conditioners under the new GST slabs. “On September 22nd, companies like Haier had reported two times the sales compared to a typical Monday thanks to many pre-bookings. Blue Star had estimated that GST 2.0 Day One sales were around 20 per cent higher compared to the same day last year. TV sales also surged and there was an excitement on digital marketplace like Amazon and Flipkart. Split AC prices have come down by Rs.3,000 to Rs.5,000. Households are taking advantage of reduced prices for electronics etc. This festive season has revived the demand across industries from cars and electronics to fashion and groceries. It was more than a tax reform,” the PIB press release on September 24th 2025 has said by citing the information data gathered from various business media sources and agencies.
