MADURAI: Teachers of Government-aided colleges in Tamil Nadu will hold a State-wide protest demonstration on July 28th 2025 demanding for immediate implementation of their career advancement pay which is pending for the last four years since the salary revision was not done for them by the government despite many appeals.

The Association of University Teachers Tamil Nadu (AUT) and college teachers’ welfare body MUTA have announced their action plan at a press meet held in Madurai today urging the State government to implement the G.O. which was issued in the year 2021.

“The promotions which were given to aided colleges faculty are only on paper because the corresponding salary revision and arrears still remains unpaid. To highlight our legitimate demand, there will be a State-wide demonstration for whole day on July 28th 2025 in front of all the eight Regional Joint Director offices of Collegiate Education in Tamil Nadu,” Dr.A.T.Senthamarai Kannan, MUTA general secretary and Prof.J.Gandhiraj, AUT president, told reporters at the press meet here on July 20th 2025.

SEVERAL REPRESENTATIONS SUBMITTED:

Expressing anguish over the inordinate delay in implementing the rightful salary for aided colleges teachers despite getting promotions, Prof.Gandhiraj has said that AUT and MUTA had given several representations to the Higher Education Ministers, Higher Education secretaries, Directors of Collegiate Education and RJDs, but nothing was done for salary revision.

“Faculty members in Government colleges received their career advancement benefits along with corresponding salary and arrears whereas teachers of aided colleges were excluded. There is a prolonged denial of monetary benefits that are due to us with promotions. So, our protest on July 28th will cover all regions- Chennai, Tiruchi, Vellore, Coimbatore, Madurai, Thanjavur, Dharmapuri and Tirunelveli because this is an issue that concerns about 2,000 permanent faculty of aided colleges who are eagerly waiting for promotions benefits with salary revision and arrears,” Dr.A.T.Senthamrai Kannan has said while demanding for pay scale revision.

Dr.A.Xavier Selvakumar, general secretary of AUT and Prof.P.K.Periasamy Raja, MUTA president were among those present at the press meet in Madurai today where it was also announced that a mass appeal protest will be organized at the Directorate of Collegiate Education office in Chennai on August 7th 2025 to intensify their struggle.
