MADURAI: A writ petition filed in the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court a few months back demanding action against the management of S.T.Hindu College in Nagercoil in Kanyakumari district has now become a talking point among a section of academic and student fraternity because they see this as a ray of hope for stopping collecting excess fees and other charges from college students in the coming days.

The petitioner Maj.Dr.K.R.Ajeendra Nath (working presently in this college as a faculty) went to the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court and his appeal came up for hearing on February 18th 2025 and in his petition he prayed for a direction to grant permission to the Higher Education Department authorities in Tamil Nadu for taking action against the college management of S.T.Hindu College in Nagercoil (College Secretary and Principal) for collecting excess fees and other charges from students and also ‘minting money’ through the college by using their official capacity.

According to information received from sources, the court has asked the officials of Tamil Nadu Higher Education Department to consider the petitioner’s first representation dated February 28th 2024 on its own merits and pass appropriate orders in accordance with law.

The petitioner has included Higher Education Secretary, Director of Collegiate Education and the Joint Director of Collegiate Education-Tirunelveli Region, in his writ petition while complaining to the court that excess fees was collected and other charges collected from students in S.T.Hindu College in Nagercoil and hence he pleaded for action, and the names mentioned in the court copy included A.Nagarajan, Secretary, S.T.Hindu College and T.M.Padmanabhan, Principal, in the date February 18th 2025 when this matter was disposed of by the court.

“I am still waiting for the Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education (Tirunelveli) to initiate action and I am also making a plea to the DVAC because the vigilance wing DVAC officials in Tamil Nadu are aware of the matter. Since the court has directed action, I am pleading for return of excess money collected from students and my other prayer is to take action against the Secretary and Principal of our college,” petitioner Dr.K.R.Ajeendra Nath told ‘Lotus Times’ media over phone on July 19th 2025.
