PATNA: The All India Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisations (AIFUCTO) has appealed to the Bihar Chief Minister for his immediate intervention to disburse salary and pension for teachers of universities and colleges in the State.

“There is a widespread frustration and anger among the teaching fraternity in Bihar. Thousands of teachers from universities and constituent colleges have not received their salaries or pensions from February this year, due to the incompetence and shortsightedness of the education department and the ongoing tug-of-war between two departments. The scenario is now reminiscent of the ‘Jungle Raj’ of the past for teaching community in Bihar,” AIFUCTO general secretary Prof. (Dr.) Arun Kumar has said in a press release on May 30th 2025 after submitting a detailed memorandum to the Bihar Chief Minister yesterday.

TEACHERS CONDITION IS IN CRITICAL PHASE:

Stating that the irregularity in disbursing salary and pension to teachers has become a grave issue in Bihar today, he observed that their condition in Bihar’s universities, colleges and schools has entered a critical phase.

The AIFUCTO general secretary also pointed out that teachers in universities and colleges in Bihar are still waiting for the disbursement of increased DA arrears pending since December 2021 while all government employees in the education department have received updated payments.

“It is a matter of concern that senior officials in the education and finance departments are not treating the salary, pension and DA matters seriously. We from the AIFUCTO demand that the Bihar government release the pending grant amount in one installment by relaxing the upper cap in grant funds as per the recommendation of the Legislative Council’s Education Committee. The Patna High Court judgment of April 30th 2025 must be implemented and our immediate demand is for regular salary and pension in time for the teachers and staff of affiliated colleges,” Prof.Arun Kumar has said while expressing his anguish.

He reminded the Chief Minister of Bihar that the ‘good governance’ established after 2005 in the name of ending the ‘Jungle Raj’ had initially brought relief and peace to all sections of society in the State.

“During the first term of your government, things were relatively smooth and people were satisfied and hopeful. However, after two decades of your governance, the issues are becoming grave and the failure to disburse salaries and pensions regularly is an example,” Prof.Dr.Arun Kumar had observed.
