MADURAI: The All India Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisations (AIFUCTO) had organised an intellectual debate in Arts College of Osmania University in Hyderabad to discuss about the De-reservation policy proposal of University Grants Commission.

In a press release issued on 4th February 2024 about the debate held yesterday, the AIFUCTO had clearly stated that it is absolutely wrong on the part of UGC to think of de-reserving the posts and positions in universities.

Speaking at this debate in Hyderabad, AIFUCTO general secretary Prof.Arun Kumar has said that the root cause for proposing de-reservation policy lies in NEP 2020, and the UGC has no authority to bring such policies into force because reservation was given through the Constitution of India.

“If observed keenly, we can find hidden agenda of this de-reservation proposal of abolishing Indian Constitution and reservation. Digital universities, guest faculty etc are for reducing workforce where reservation gradually disappears. Students and teachers should come together to protect reservation policy,” Prof.Dr.Arun Kumar has said.

Prof.Limbadri, Chairman of Telangana State Council for Higher Education (TSCHE), spoke in equity and inclusiveness. Dr.Konda Nageswara Rao, president of Telangana Vidhyavanthula Vedika, had presided over the debate.

Those who attended the debate in Hyderabad on February 3rd 2024 include Dr.J.Ratna Prabhakar, vice-president of AIFUCTO, Prof.C.Ganesh, Principal of Arts College-Osmania University, Prof.Kaseem, Head, Department of Telugu-OU, Prof.Mallesham, vice-president, OUTA and K.Mohan of AIFUCTO-AP among others.
