MADURAI: A complaint was sent to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Cell urging for an impartial probe into the alleged irregularities, corruption and favouritism that took place in government-aided appointments in the last one decade in the prestigious The American College in Madurai which was established in the year 1881.

In the name of non-teaching staff of this college, an online complaint was made with all particulars to the Chief Minister on October 14th 2026 and copies of that petition were sent to top authorities of collegiate education, to the college principal and secretary, to alumni association of the college and others.

“American College in Madurai is one of the most reputed government-aided colleges in our State. It is deeply concerning to us to hear that certain alleged irregularities have taken place in appointments etc. We would particularly request for a fact-finding impartial inquiry into the alleged role of college superintendent against whom there are allegations coming in that he played a significant role in matters relating to the appointment of teaching and non-teaching staff to government-aided posts from the year 2016. We are concerned that money was collected from those who sought govt-aided appointments in this great American College,” according to the online complaint to CM Cell.

MONEY FROM COLLEGE STAFF:

The non-teaching staff’s complaint also wanted for a thorough probe into the lab assistant post and verify the appointment orders, qualification, eligibility, service record etc because there is a growing concern among long-serving employees that since around 2016, many genuine and eligible employees who worked sincerely for the college have not received govt-aided appointments in the same manner like what happened in the lab assistant appointment process.

“We also want the CM Cell to check the proposed teaching post appointment in our college’s Tamil Department. The Tamil Department of The American College in Madurai has a proud academic heritage and has been associated with eminent scholars including Prof.Solomon Pappaiah. Our intention is not to personally defame or target any individual. We want the college reputation to be protected and ensure that govt-aided posts are filled in accordance with government regulations,” the e-mail complaint had alerted the government.

The petition sent to CM Cell also pointed out that their appeal for a fair probe comes in the wake of serious allegations against former Principal and Secretary Dr.M.Davamani Christober in the matters of appointments and promotions.
