TAMIL NADU PEOPLE WANT TO RESTORE THE GLORY OF KEELADI.
MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Science Forum (TNSF) Madurai district unit has today raised a few pertinent questions to all the candidates who are contesting as MLA candidates from Madurai district from various political parties.
In a press statement issued from Madurai on April 15th 2026, the TNSF-Madurai District had demanded that the Keeladi excavation report must be released immediately and that the MLA candidates who are contesting in assembly elections must tell the people here on what they will do for the Vaigai River and how they will make this Vaigai river as free from sewage and waste.
“We want the Keeladi excavation report to be released immediately because the present government at the Centre has not released the full report in Keeladi in Tamil Nadu. Keeladi indicates the existence of an ancient urban civilization and a report was submitted by archaeologist Dr.Amarnath Ramakrishnan. That report must be released immediately and put in public domain. We also want the MLA candidates to announce that a world-class archaeological research centre will be established in Madurai and also that special tours will be arranged from Madurai for students to enjoy and explore Madurai’s ancient archaeological sites,” Dr.K.Kannan, district secretary, TNSF-Madurai District, has said in a press statement here today.
The Tamil Nadu Science Forum-Madurai district unit also demanded today that the MLA candidates must have clear plans to save Vaigai River from untreated sewage flow that gets into the Vaigai river directly as dye, medial waste, meat waste and ash etc that gets dumped into the Vaigai.
“A mega project for sewage treatment plant must be implemented immediately and the sewage must not get mixed in the Vaigai River in Madurai. The water channels including Kruthumal must be dredged and maintained properly. We also demand the MLA candidates to save mineral and soil resources at Sivarakottai by ordering for an independent enquiry commission to protect the environment. We want underground drainage and road maintenance in Madurai with safe drinking water connections in Madurai city and also a solid waste management segregation cum recycling units because we want to ensure that the Vaigai riverbed should not become into an unregulated dump yard,” the TNSF Madurai District unit has appealed to the contesting MLA candidates of all political parties through a press statement on April 15th 2026.
The TNSF Madurai also appealed for expanding bus transport with new electric buses and installing of air quality monitoring devices at key locations besides providing a top class advanced cervical cancer screening facility centre in Madurai at GRH and other other locations in Madurai district.
