MADURAI: A member of Church of South India (CSI) from Madurai had approached the Kerala police requesting them to take necessary action immediately on a complaint already lodged alleging MBBS seat fraud that took place in Dr.SMCSI Medical College in Trivandrum under the NRI quota for a student who has only Madurai links.
The request letter to the Kerala police was submitted by furnishing all details and documents at Vellarada police station in Thiruvananthapuram on January 28th 2026 by social activist Mr.D.Devasakayam who is serving as president of Christian Reformation People Association and also as one of the members of the CSI.
In his representation to Kerala police, he alleged that a MBBS seat admission for a student from Madurai was fraudulently obtained under NRI quota a few years back by submitting fabricated documents at Dr.SMCSI Medical College which is situated at Karakonam in Thiruvananthapuram district and later got it changed as management quota seat thereby causing a financial loss of Rs.75 lakhs to that medical college which is administered by the Medical Misison-South Diocese of Church of South India, at Karakonam in Trivandrum district.
POLICE COMPLAINT DETAILS:
The complainant Mr.Devasakayam has said in his petition to the Kerala police that a student by name Mr.Eben Mathew had participated in the spot admisison to MBBS course in 2017-18 and he was given seat as 13th rank in the Non Resident Indian (NRI) quota category, but after getting admission it was transferred to the management quota due to the request made by his advocate father Mr.Fernandes Rathinaraja from Madurai who has influence in the CSI here.
“The candidate’s NEET rank was 4,04,327. The Director of Dr.SMCSI Medical College Dr.Bennet Abraham had wrongly accepted the father’s request for fee adjusting, and the initial fee of Rs.20 lakhs paid for NRI quota MBBS seat was adjusted towards the amount of management quota seat. It was a fraudulent bypass of rules. Mr.Eben Mathew’s admission is a clear violation of rules because the management quota fees is less than NRI quota seat fees. It is an offence. The definition of NRI quota was violated in this case and our request to the police is that the student’s father Mr.Fernandes Rathina Raja and college director Dr.Bennet Abraham had intentionally submitted fabricated documents to the college authorities to secure MBBS admission under NRI quota even though the candidate does not meet the NRI seat guidelines. We are also requesting for police action against CSI Moderator Mr.Dharmaraj Rasalam who knows the matter,” the complainant Mr.D.Devasakayam has appealed in his letter given at Vellarada police station in Thiruvananthapuram Rural on January 28th 2026 he further claimed that departmental action was initiated already from the medical education department side asking for NRI documents from the candidate who had completed his MBBS course.
