MADURAI: The Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) here will have a new full-time Registrar and Controller of Examinations in just one month time and all steps are being taken to expedite the selection process for appointing right candidates for all key nodal positions in the varsity which are presently managed with in-charge basis.
This assurance was given by the MKU Syndicate Convener’s Committee chairman and Commissioner of Collegiate Education Mr.P.Ponniah IAS at the Academic Council meeting held today-July 24th 2026-where members made a firm demand to follow ‘One Man One Post’ rule in the university.
“In another one month time, we will complete the entire selection process because you are all aware that already notification was issued calling for applications from eligible candidates. I was told that 24 applications were received for Registrar post and seven applications for the post of Controller of Examinations. We will form a scrutiny committee and make the appointments for all important positions in MKU. The ‘One Man One Post’ rule will be followed,” Mr.P.Ponniah who chaired the agenda-packed academic council meeting here today has said.
He was replying to an adjournment motion moved by AC member Dr.K.Sadasivam demanding for a discussion on the issue of two important posts-Registrar and Controller of Examinations-being held by one person right now.
DISCONTENT AMONG VARSITY STAFF:
“We must implement one man one post principle. Already CoE is a post with heavy workload, and by some reason the same person was nominated as Registrar in-charge of our university. So, there is a discontent among our staff as same person is holding two key posts. There are eligible professors here in our MKU campus. So, I request the Convener’s Committee chairman Mr.P.Ponniah IAS to take immediate steps because I am afraid that there will be a conflict of interest if one person holds two important posts,” Dr.K.Sadasivam had urged while moving the adjournment motion.
He was supported by other members including Dr.A.Velanganni Joseph who demanded that only professor cadre persons must be appointed for nodal officer positions in the university and administrative staff must be removed wherever they have been appointed now.
The discussion on this issue ended after Mr.P.Ponniah IAS assured the Academic Council members that their request will be met in next one month by speeding up the selection process for appointing new Registrar, new Controller of Examinations and Deans etc.
