MADURAI: The vascular team at Apollo Speciality Hospitals in Madurai had successfuly treated a 50-year-old male patient who had a serious thoracic problem and showed a fatal vascular condition that was compressing the laryngeal nerve threby leading to vocal cord palsy.

This timely ‘Hybrid Revascularization’ procedure which was done a few weeks ago had saved the life of the patient coming from Pudukottai, thanks to the accurate timely diagnosis and evaluation done by the team of doctors.

The details about Hybrid Revascularisation were explained at a press meet here today-December 10th 2025-by senior pulmonologist Dr.M.Palaniappan and vascular surgeon Dr.K.S.Venkata Prasanna along with Dr.Nikhil Tiwari, Chief Operating Officer, Apollo Speciality Hospitals and Dr.K.Praveen Rajan, Joint Director-Medical Services.

“The patient was initially misdiagnosed in some other hospital when he had persistent hoarseness of his voice. When he was told that it could be some lung malignancy or lung cancer etc, he came to Madurai Apollo Hospital for second opinion. When he approached me, we did a detailed clinical evaluation and found that the patient had a thoracic aortic saccular aneurysm that was compressing the left recurrent laryngeal nerve leading to vocal cord palsy,” Dr.M.Palaniappan, senior pulmonologist, told reporters at the press meet here today.

EXCELLENT OUTCOME FOR PATIENT:

Vascular surgeon Dr.K.S.Venkata Prasanna has said that hybrid revascuralisation approach had helped to protect subclavian artery while safely excluding the aneurysm through Thoaracic Endovascular Aortic Repair (TEVAR) and the outcome was excellent.

“We did open bypass and precise stent deployment to treat this rare aortic condition. The patient’s hoarseness of voice is being improved now with speech therapy,” he added.

Dr.Nikhil Tiwari and Dr.K.Praveen Rajan had emphasised that planning and execution was done perfectly for the patient and his recovery shows the high-end vardiovascular care that is available at Apollo Speciality Hospitals in Madurai.
