MADURAI: Demanding immediate action by the Tamil Nadu State government for their Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) promotions, the teaching faculty of Madurai Kamaraj University here have begun indefinite strike from today-March 2nd 2026.
The Madurai Kamaraj University Faulty Association (MUFA) has called for an intensive sit-in protest in the varsity campus from today morning and the faculty members sat inside the MKU Registrar’s chamber asking for a positive reply for their legitimate demand.
“Our protest will continue in the night also in the same place. Despite continuous representations to the varsity authorities and higher education department, there is no action till now to issue CAS 2022 promotion orders for eligible faculty who have been waiting anxiously for last two years,” Dr.C.Muniyandi, general secretary of MUFA, has said while addressing the faculty in MKU Registrar’s chamber today afternoon.
Stressing the point that they are asking only their routine promotions, he said that they are now worried whether their career prospects will be affected badly if this delay continues from the university and government.
“Today also we requested the Registrar to take swift action for our CAS 2022 promotions. We sent messages to the Higher Education Minister and Syndicate Convener madam also. The interviews for promotions were over two years back. There are 103 faculty members who are waiting for CAS promotions in MKU. The CAS process for eligible faculty had started four years back as per UGC norms, and the interviews were already over two years ago. Certificate verification is over and why the delay we don’t know. If the assembly elections model code of conduct comes into effect, our CAS promotions may get even more delayed. So, we want the State government to announce good news for us immediately,” Dr.C.Muniyandi has said on February 2nd 2026.
MUFA president Dr.T.Arokiadoss, treasurer Dr.V.Shanmugaiah and all office-bearers of the faculty association have made an appeal to the top level authorities to give rightful promotions that are due to the university faculty of various departments.
