National Science Day brings students’ ideas into focus at Sethu Institute of Technology and Thiagarajar College in Madurai

MADURAI: The special events organized by Sethu Institute of Technology (SIT) and Thiagarajar College in Madurai to commemorate National Science Day on February 28th 2026 gave an opportunity for students to present their innovative ideas and creativity.

In SIT campus near here, an inter-departmental symposium named ‘STENTSYA’26’ was held by the Department of Science and Humanities in association with Science and Humanities Association of SIT (SAHAS) exclusively for first year students to foster their scientific curiousity , creativity and innovative thinking.

A wide range of events including project expo, Ideathon, science connect and Explore AI gave an opportunity to the students to demonstrate their ideas, and more than 125 innovative projects were exhibited for which awards were presented for impact projects in recognition of students’ enthusiasm and innovation spirit.

Mr.S.Mohamed Jaleel, SIT Chairman along with CEO Mr.S.M.Seeni Mohaideen, Joint CEO Dr.S.M.Seeni Mohamed Aliar Maraikkayar, Director (Administration) Ms.S.M.Nilofer Fathima and Dr.S.M.Nazia Fathima (R&D) witnessed the project expo and encouraged student participants, according to a press release from SIT here yesterday.

SCIENCE FOR SUSTAINABLE FUTURE:

At Thiagarajar College in Teppakulam in Madurai, the National Science Day was celebrated under the banner of TC Institutions Innovation Council with the themes-Science and Technology for Sustainable Future, Women in Science and Global Science for Global Well-being.

Dr.N.Panchanathan, Vice-Chancellor, Gandhigram Rural Institute, who was the chief guest had urged students to ask questions because inquiry forms the backbone of scientific progress. He mooted the idea of organizing innovation stalls on the lines of ‘Friday Bazaar’ model to give more space for experiential learning.

Dr.Uma Kannan, president, Thiagarajar College, Dr.D.Pandiaraja, TC Principal, Dr.N.Srinivasan, associate professor and Head of Department of Physics and Dr.R.Sayee Kannan, associate professor of chemistry and IIC coordinator were among those who spoke. Science exhibition was inaugurated by Dr.Uma Kannan and this expo featured 303 innovative models, a press release from the college has said.
