MADURAI: Former Member of Parliament from West Bengal Mr.Nilotpal Basu has today cautioned the academic fratenity in India to be vigilant of a dangerous trend because the present education policies followed by Modi government at the Centre are being determined by the RSS and corporates.

“Education has become a playground of politics. The National Education Policy 2020 is an outcome of ideological forces like the RSS which was deeply engaged in drafting that policy and the corporate interests that have influenced the final NEP 2020. The composite nature of India’s thought process and the Constitutional values have been demolished while market forces are taking over the field of education in the Modi regime,” he said in Madurai today-October 11th 2025.

Mr.Nilotpal Basu was invited as chief guest to speak at the 8th education conference organized by teachers’ welfare body MUTA on the topic “Protecting the Constitutional values in Indian Education” at The American College here.

HURRIEDLY BROUGHT DURING COVID LOCKDOWN:

He accused that the National Education Policy 2020 was hurriedly brought in by the Modi government during COVID lockdown period without adequate deliberations and opinions of acadmeicians in the country.

“Such a far reaching document like the NEP 2020 should have had a public debate across the country. When the people were in lockdown at homes, discussions could not place to air the views. So, the advserse impact is felt now as education is getting communalized and forces like the RSS are refashioning the mindset of Indian people with a complete distortion of facts to bring Hindutva ideology. Indian education system is going in a reverse trend and we must fight the ideological onslaught and regressive ideas being forced on our people by the Modi government,” Mr.Nilotpal Basu has said said at the MUTA’s education conference in Madurai today.

THE GREAT PERIYAR IN TAMIL NADU:

The West Bengal leader has asked the conference delegates to bear in mind that education is an instrument of democracy and liberty, and education has to be encompassive.

“In Tamil Nadu, the great Periyar has illuminated the minds of people and because of that there are strong voices from this State for social justice and secularism. So, my message from Madurai today is that if we leave the eduction to market forces, a large population will be left behind, But, unfortunately India’s trajectory is on market forces and corporate houses right now to take care of education from school level to university level. The RSS is demonizing the school sysllabus history textbooks with its influence. In the place of real history, our students are studying chapters on mythology,” senior Communist leader Mr.Nilotpal Basu had stressed while giving a call for collective fight to save the field of education.

Dr.M.Nagarajan, AIFUCTO president and Prof.Arunan of Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artists Association, have explained about the negative immplications of NEP 2020 and how the country’s Constitutional values are missing in today’s education system.

MUTA general secretary Dr.A.T.Senthamarai Kannan and president Prof.P.K.Periasamy Raja were among those who spoke at today’s conference along with MUTA treasurer Dr.R.Raja Jeya Sekar and others by stressing that the essence of Constitutional values must be protected in education and in classrooms for the sake of future generations.
