Nellai Express bags Best Train Award in Madurai Division of Southern Railway; Dindigul is the best maintained railway station (FULL DETAILS of railway awards)

MADURAI: The famous Nellai Express from Tirunelveli to Chennai Egmore (Train No 12632) has bagged the award for best maintained train in the category of trains covering less than 1,000 kms in one direction while Dindigul railway station has won award for best maintained station in the division.

Awards function was organized in Madurai today-October 11th 2025- to present ‘Swachhata Awards’ and honour those who made outstanding contributions towards cleanliness and hygiene in the railways across the Madurai Division of Southern Railway.

Nellai Express from Tirunelveli to Chennai Egmore (Train No.12632) had won the best maintained train award in less than 1,000 kms category and Tirunelveli-Bilaspur Junction Express train had won the award for best train in the catgeory of trains running more than 1,000 kms in one direction, according to a press release recieved from the Madurai Division of Southern Railway here today evening.

The awards function was held in accordance with the directive of Ministry of Railways as part of ‘Swachhata’ cleanliness drive campaign 2025 which took place for two months in all the railway premises in Madurai division.

Mr.Om Prakash Meena, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Madurai Division, had distirbuted the awards for various categories in the presence of Additional Divisional Railway Manager Mr.L.N.Rao and Divisional Environment and Housekeeping Manager Mr.Gundewar Badal K along with Divisional Personnel Officer Mr.T.Sankaran and other railway team, the press release added.

BEST RLY STATION AND BEST RAILWAY COLONY:

Awards and shields were presented for best maintained stations, best trains, railway yards and railway colony. Among the major stations of NSG 2&3 category, Dindigul railway station had bagged the award while in the NSG category 4-5-6, the award was won by Sengottai. Among the station master maintianed stations, Pushpattur had won the award.

Auvaneeswaram railway station in Madurai Division recieved the best maintained yard award while Tirunelveli and Sengottai railway colonies have bagged award in the category of colonies having more than 100 occupied quarters and less than 100 hundred occupied quarters respectively.

Mr.Prasanna Chandru and his team from the carriage and wagon department in Madurai who worked for making of temple gopuram by using the wailway scrap was felicitated by the top officials of Madurai Division here today.
