MADURAI: Guest faculty and teaching assistants of Madurai Kamaraj University College (MKU College) at Alagarkoil Road in Madurai have staged a sit-in protest in the college campus for the third day today-June 4th 2025- demanding for their May month salary.

The guest faculty who are working on consolidated pay basis in various departments of MKU College raised slogans urging the college authorities and concerned officials in the government to understand their plight because they have been working for a meagre salary for the past several years starting from six years to 20 years on consolidated pay every month.

Dr.B.George, Principal in-charge, has said today that he had taken up the matter at the highest level up to the Convener’s Committee of Syndicate members in MKU and the approval for payment is just awaited anytime.

“The 12th month salary alone is the issue for 89 guest faculty who are working in our college on consolidated pay basis. They get about Rs.25,000 per month. I understand their difficulty. From the college side, we took steps for immediate disbursal of their May month salary. These guest faculty do a very good work and even today they worked in the students’ admission process. The Convener’s Committee, the Higher Education Commissioner… madam Sundaravalli are following it up and soon they will get the May month salary,” MKU College Principal in-charge Dr.B.George told ‘Lotus Times’ news website here today afternoon-June 4th 2025 and he added that the delay is only because of a G.O. that says payment for 11 months.

Earlier, MKU College Principal in-charge Dr.B.George and vice-principal Dr.P.Kabilan held talks with the protesting guest faculty and teaching faculty to give them the assurance that their demand will be solved soon in a matter of time.
