MADURAI: The cardiology team of Meenakshi Super Speciality Hospital in Madurai has today given some basic basic tips for heart health and how to prevent heart diseases by following certain lifestyle changes in their daily routine.
Heart experts of this hospital had highlighted healthy heart priorities at a press meet here today in connection with the World Heart Day tomorrow on September 29th 2024, and they also spoke about the risk factors that are causing cardiovascular diseases in Tamil Nadu due to lifestyle changes, high diabetes prevalence and early onset of hypertension.
“There is adequate research data that shows that if a person walks 7,000 steps daily by being physically active and brisk, it is a good sign for healthy heart. Getting at least seven hours of quality sleep every night is also essential. These are basic needs for the heart and also equally important is to avoid all risk factors such as smoking and all types of tobacco consumption,” the cardiology team doctors of Meenakshi Super Speciality Hospital in Madurai told reporters today after conducting ‘Meenakshi Heart Walk- 7 Days 7K Challenge’ to promote healthy heart awareness in Madurai.
WHAT ARE THE RISK FACTORS AND WARNING SIGNS?
The risk factors of cardiac diseases and heart problems are hypertension, diabetes, tobacco use, smoking, obesity etc. It was emphasized that cardiovascular diseases causes 28 per cent of all deaths in India and health check-up once in a year is very important for a healthy heart long life.
Warning signs of heart problem include chest discomfort, unexplained fatigue, shortness of breath, pain in arms, jaw pain etc, besides dizziness and swelling in legs.
The press meet in Madurai today was addressed by a team of senior cardiologists of the hospital including Dr.N.Ganesan, Dr.R.Sivakumar and Dr.S.Selvamani along with Dr.S.Kumar, Head of Department and Senior Consultant of Department of Cardiac Anaesthesiology.
They also spoke about stress management, balanced diet, fruits and vegetables, limiting alocohol, meditation and yoga, annual health check-up and cardiac screening whenever there is a doubt or uneasiness etc.
