MADURAI: The old method of using ‘Thandora’ to make announcements through drums is also being followed at villages near Madurai to create public awareness on dos and don’ts about Coronavirus.
Nagamalai Pudukottai police station near Madurai is alerting villagers under its jurisdiction through ‘Thandora’ and a drummer is going rounds in hamlets telling people about lockdown and police instructions to stay home.
“Children should not come out to play cricket or any other game outside now. Stay inside your house…..Police are watching our movements…..Till 3rd May, you can come out only for buying vegetables or essential items,” the ‘Thandora’ drummer went around beating drums in Nagamalai Pudukotai area on 15th April 2020.
The places being covered include Keelakuilkudi, Thuvariman, Keelamathur, Kodimangalam etc.
