MADURAI: In an important decision taken to stop crowding at the huge vegetable market in Mattuthavani in Madurai city, the Corporation today took steps to temporarily relocate the shops and open at multiple locations in all zones covering all areas in Madurai .
This move comes in the wake of Section 144 and complete lockdown being implemented to prevent spread of Coronavirus infection and ensure social distancing. Madurai Corporation Commissioner Mr.S.Visakan had conducted a meeting with senior officials and in a press release informed that the shops located in vegetable market right now will be divided and they will be open at various places across Madurai city from 6 am to 9 am.
With this decision, people will not gather in large numbers at one place and thereby stops crowding in central vegetable market at Mattuthavani. This arrangement is on temporary basis till corona lockdown comes to an end.
The Corporation authorities also decided to do the same with ‘Thayir market’ at East Veli Street and shops will be temporarily shifted to different places for the convenience of city residents. Arrangements for washing of hands has been made.
Madurai Corporation City Engineer Mr.Arasu and senior officials Palanisamy, Premkumar and others were present at today’s discussion meeting with regard to vegetable shops.
