MADURAI: Even though the BJP cadres have locked themselves inside their homes by following the Corona curfew lockdown guidelines, they continued to reach out to the deserving poor families who are waiting for food and someone’s help.

On 30th March 2020, a few party functionaries came out of their homes wearing masks and took 2.5 tonnes of rice to the doorsteps of deserving marginalized community people – NARIKURAVARS- living at Sakkimangalam near Madurai and distributed it to them.

The Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association, Madurai, had sponsored the rice while the BJP Madurai Rural District unit took care of logistics and identified the beneficiaries.

“People of this ‘Saattai’ community (Narikuravars) are a marginalized section…..They have no daily wages or food for survival in this present curfew scenario…..Their requirement was rice and so the BJP Madurai Rural district unit took the initiative of providing five kilos of rice to each family. Totally 500 families were given rice today,” Tamil Nadu BJP State leader Prof.Dr.R.Srinivasan told ‘Lotustimes’ news website here today.

Stating that social distancing protocol was strictly followed while distributing rice in Sakkimangalam today, he said that the party cadres were moved after seeing the plight of these poor families bearing hunger in this Corona curfew.

“BJP thanks the liberal help of Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association and we thank association president Mr.S.P.Jeyapragasam for this gesture….. With our joint initiative, hundreds of poor ‘Narikurava’ families will have food now,” Prof.Dr.R.Srinivasan had added.
