MADURAI: Five railway stations in Tamil Nadu which are redeveloped at a cost of Rs.70 crores under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi tomorrow-October 11th 2026-from Chennai via virtual mode during his visit to Chennai to take part in various functions.
The five railway stations are Ambasamudram, Palani, Paramakkudi, Namakkal and Vellore Cantonment where passenger amenities were improved, upgraded waiting areas, enhanced accessibility and convenient travel experience, the Southern Railway has said in a press release issued to give details about the railway projects worth around Rs.750 crores which are being inaugurated by the PM thereby giving thrust to rail projects in the State.
Palani railway station in Dindigul district was redeveloped at a cost of Rs.20 crores because it is a principal rail gateway to the famous Palani temple which is one of the six abodes of Lord Murugan which draws lakhs of devotees each year especially during ‘Thai Poosam’ and ‘Panguni Uthiram‘ festivals.
“The works that were done at Palani station include new entrance arch, new facade to station building, covered parking for cars and two-wheelers, a new waiting hall and toilet block, platform works, two lifts, platform shelters, information boards, art work and Divyangjan facilities,” the railway press release has added.
Similarly, Paramakudi railway station in Ramanathapuram district has been redeveloped at a cost of Rs.14 crores and this station is an important rail gateway for pilgrims and tourists going to Rameswaram.
“Now, this station got more amenities like covered parking, improved booking counter etc. The redeveloped railway station at Paramakudi is expected to help the town’s handloom sector reach,” the Southern Railway has said in its curtain-raiser press release today ahead of PM’s visit
The PM is going to dedicate to the nation the Karaikal-Peralam rail line developed at a cost of over Rs.550 crores and he will also dedicate three three rail flyovers constructed at a cost of Rs.120 crores in Coimbatore area.
“Inauguration of rail projects will be done through video-conferencing facility from the main programme at KV in IIT-Madras in Chennai and ceremonial functions will be held at the five redeveloped stations,” the press release has informed and further said that Ambasamudram railway station in Tirunelveli district was redeveloped at a cost of Rs.13 crores with upgraded passenger amenities.
