MADURAI: At a time when there are public health concerns about Dengue fever affected cases being reported in more numbers in Tamil Nadu now, an awareness session is being organized in Madurai tomorrow evening- September 18th 2026 @ 5 pm- on preventive strategies for controlling mosquito vectors that are causing this disease infection.

Dr.T.Mariappan, former scientist-F, National Institute of Vector Control Research (NIVCR)-Madurai and in Department of Health Research at Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), will speak on “present scenario on development of vaccination against Dengue in India” at a Popular Science Lecture being organized by Tamil Nadu Science Forum (TNSF-Madurai) at Kalaignar Centenary Library in Madurai tomorrow evening.

“We must control that mosquito vector called Aedes aegypti to prevent dengue fever cases and control epidemic situation. I will explain a few preventive strategies as 7 commandments that are being practiced in Jeddah….and the 7Cs are Cover water containers, Cleaning/scrub the insides of all water containers once a week, Converting empty drums into inverted position, Cleaning of AC at home by collecting stagnant water from AC in a bucket or container, Creating unsuitable environment by disposing unwanted wastage at home to prevent daytime vector which rests in dark/cooler areas, Cooperating in source reduction operation with Corporation officials and Communicating each other as dengue control is our social responsibility,” Dr.T.Mariappan has said while speaking to ‘Lotus Times’ media in Madurai today about his master plan for controlling mosquitoes at home and office.

He will speak as an advisor and consultant about Dengue vaccine development in India, how dengue infection is happening now, dengue fever cases and the clinical methods that can prevent morbidity and mortality by taking effective mosquito control measures by public health authorities and staff of municipality/corporation/local bodies in Tamil Nadu.
