MADURAI: The Madurai Division of Southern Railway here has made an elaborate and extensive arrangements trackmap to handle the huge rush of pilgrims who are reaching Madurai to witness the most divine ‘Maha Kumbabhishekam’ of world famous Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple tomorrow morning-September 17th 2026, which is taking place after a gap of 17 years.
Apart from running special trains to clear the rush, the railway authorities of Madurai Division took extra care of passenger facilitation, police security, cleanliness, medical assistance, facilities at Madurai railway station, crowd management plans, police surveillance, CCTVs, lifts and escalators etc so that the people who are coming to Madurai by trains will have a safe and comfortable movement thanks to the railway’s dedicated coordination team with all concerned departments in Madurai for tomorrow’s most sacred event that is going to be watched across India and abroad tomorrow morning from 7 am onwards.
“Southern Railway has already put on track additional special train services to meet the pilgrims rush….in different directions of the State. A temporary booth for passenger information is ready on Platform No.1 at Madurai railway station now and there will be a team to help the devotees for train info. Wheelchairs in more numbers are available for elderly passengers and physically challenged persons who are coming to Madurai railway station to see the Meenakshi Temple Kumbabhishekam on September 17th 2026,” a press release from railway has informed.
The Madurai Railway Junction is also equipped with more clean force for hygiene issues by deploying 75 additional conservancy persons who will work in three shifts during this festival period.
Madurai railway station has 65 existing CCTV cameras and 32 additional CCTV cameras have been installed to strengthen surveillance all over the station premises, and there are more door frame metal detectors, bomb disposal squad, anti-sabotage checks along with drone-based aerial surveillance to oversee the crowds thronging Madurai tomorrow and help the government teams in crowd moevment and management.
RAILWAY POLICE FORCE TEAMS:
“The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and our Madurai police are working in coordination to have a strong surveillance security by adding 32 additional CCTV cameras to monitor passenger movement in Madurai station premises round-the-clock from a special CCTV monitoring room and war room opened by the railway authorities in Madurai,” the press release added.
There will be two mobile toilets in circulating area along with two additional train ticket-vending machines and two more water booths, besides one railway ambulance, and 108 ambulances from State government, one medical aid team of State government and a first-aid medical team from St.John Ambulance Brigade, according to the railway press release issue dhere yesterday and it was also informed that steps have been taken to ensure uninterrupted generator backup of power supply for lifts and escalators at various platforms and entry areas in Madurai railway station.
