‘One Day, One Hour, Together’: Southern Railway takes up massive cleanliness campaign, to do a mega drive on Oct 1st at all railway stations etc…

MADURAI: In an effort towards giving a fillip to clean India movement, the Southern Railway has taken up a special initiative for cleanliness drive with public participation.

Southern Railway General Manager Mr.U.Subba Rao had launched the curtain raiser event held at GM’s office in Southern Railway headquarters in Chennai today-September 16th 2026- with a campaign for ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2026’ through a series of cleanliness measures.

Mr.Vipin Kumar, Additional General Manager of Southern Railway, principal Heads of Departments and Divisional Railway Managers were present at this curtain raiser event and the emphasis is to strengthen the culture of cleanliness, hygiene etc across all spheres of railway operations with public support, according to a railway press release here today.

The Indian Railways is aiming to transform one lakh locations in the country through a nationwide cleanliness drive and as a part of that mission there will be a special cleanliness drive on October 1st 2026 called “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’ (One Day, one hour…together) Shramdaan by involving railway employees and the public to spend their one hour time towards cleanliness.

“This campaign will culminate by observing Swachh Bharat Diwas on October 2nd 2026 commemorating the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and to make a collective commitment for a cleaner India,” the press release said and added that cleanliness awareness activities will be undertaken across all divisions of Southern Railway, railway stations, railway colonies and other identified areas with a message that cleanliness is a shared responsibility.
