New Registrar for Madurai Kamaraj University as TN Govt replaces the incumbent after MUFA protests for CAS promotions delay to eligible faculty in last four years

MADURAI: In a sudden and significant development, the Tamil Nadu government’s Higher Education Department has today- March 2nd 2026- replaced the incumbent Registrar in-charge of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) here and nominated in his place Dr.S.Muthiah who is a senior person with vast administrative experience in handling of university affairs.

Sources told ‘Lotus Times’ media in Madurai today that the present Registrar in-charge of MKU Prof.Dr.M.Ramakrishnan has been removed from the post and in his place the present Controller of Examinations in-charge Dr.S.Muthiah has also been given the additional charge as Registrar with immediate effect from today- March 2nd 2026.

“This sudden development in our university happened at 3 pm today after MUFA had staged a sit-in protest in the Registrar chamber from today morning for their long pending Career Advancement Scheme promotions. Dr.S.Muthiah will hold the Registrar in-charge position in addition to being the Controller of Examinations of our university till further orders come from the government. The information from MKU campus today is that the Registrar has been replaced and Prof.Dr.M.Ramakrishnan has been relieved of his responsibilities by the government. Our association extends its wishes to the new Registrar Dr.S.Muthiah and we already briefed him about our main demand of CAS 2022 promotions and how the MKU faculty are waiting to receive their promotion orders. So, with the new Registrar’s coming today, the sit-in protest of MUFA has been temporarily suspended,” Dr.C.Muniyandi, MUFA general secretary, has said in a statement today evening-March 2nd 2026.
