MADURAI: Project Dignity, a special initiative for promoting menstrual health and hygiene awareness among adolescent girls was launched in Madurai with an aim to ensure safe, healthy and confident ‘periods’.

This menstrual dignity project for school girls is being carried out in schools here jointly by Indian Development Foundation-Mumbai and Educational Trust of India (ETI) and Voluntary Association for Peoples Service (VAPS) Training Institute in Madurai.

Already, awareness sessions and distribution of sanitary pads were done at Kakkaipadiniyar Corporation Girls Higher Secondary School at Chokkikulam on February 18th 2026 and at E.V.R.Nagamayar Corporation Girls Higher Secondary School at South Veli Street in the city on February 23rd 2026.

“Menstruation is just a natural biological process that girls can manage with confidence and right hygienic practices. It may involve some discomfort or pain, but nothing to worry if we support the adolescent girls and tell them about timely changing of sanitary pads,” Ms.R.Elamathi, Director, VAPS, has said while speaking to students at ‘Project Dignity’ session held at Kakkaipadiniyar Corporation Girls Higher Secondary School at Besant Road in Chokkikulam on February 18th 2026.
