MADURAI: The Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) campus here had today witnessed angry scenes and subsequent talks as teaching faculty of the varsity had stormed into the Registrar’s chamber today afternoon- September 16th 2025- and held him up in his chair for six hours demanding immediate approval for their career promotions.

“The teaching staff of MKU came to the Registrar’s office at 12 noon today to raise their long pending demand of implementing the Career Advancement Scheme promotions given to them under the CAS. Today’s protest was more particularly about the 2022 batch faculty who got their promotions when Prof.J.Kumar was the Vice-Chancellor. The selection process for promotions was already over when he was the VC, but it was not implemented till now and the faculty did not get their promotions into effect till today, and so there was a massive protest and talks in our campus today,” MKU sources said today evening after the talks with MKU Registrar in-charge Prof.M.Ramakrishnan were over at 6 pm on September 16th 2025.

According to university officials, nearly 80 faculty members of MKU are eligible for promotions in their respective grades from assistant professor to associate professor level etc and those who are from the 2022 year batch have today demanded that their promotions issue should not be linked with those who were selected for CAS promotions from batches of other years.

The faculty from various departments and the members of Madurai Kamaraj University Faculty Association (MUFA) had staged the protest and sat inside the Registrar’s office chamber for six hours to press for their demand and get an assurance.

“The financial implications issue should not be linked for the 2022 faculty batch who are due for their promotions. And, the CAS must be given in time for all the faculty of our university. We are waiting for the coming Syndicate meeting of MKU on September 18th 2025, and one of our prime demands is that the 2022 batch CAS promotions must be considered specially and they should not be linked with the previous years faculty who are waiting for promotions but got held up due to various issues. All the objections for CAS promotions must be addressed quickly and we were told today evening that our demand was included in the Syndicate agenda items to be discussed at the Syndicate meeting that is going to take place on September 18th 2025 when senior IAS officers will be attending this meeting,” a senior official of MKU has said today while briefing about the faculty protest in MKU campus today.
