MKU tourism dept Director dies in road accident in Kerala; University staff and students in Madurai mourn his fatal death

MADURAI: Dr.S.Praveenkumar (42 yrs), assistant professor and Director in-charge of Centre for Tourism and Hotel Management at Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) here, had died in a fatal road accident in Kerala today-September 14th 2025- on Palakkad Road while travelling from Guruvayur, in a road accident involving the car in which he was travelling and KSRTC bus.

MKU faculty and students have expressed their grief over his death in road mishap and said in a condolence message that his contribution to the university in general and to the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management in MKU in particular will always be remembered.

“We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Dr.S.Praveen Kumar in a fatal accident on Palakkad Road while travelling from Guruvayur as the car was hot by a KSRTC bus. After the postmortem process at Palakkad Hospital in Kerala, his body will be brought to his residence at Agrini Apartments in Madurai by tonight. He is just 42 years age and is survived by wife and a child,” the university faculty said today while expressing their condolences to the bereaved family.

According to MKU sources, he became the Director in-charge of Tourism and Hotel Management in the university only recently and had earned a good name among the staff and students.

The Madurai Kamaraj University Faculty Association (MUFA) has expressed its grief and sorrow over the passing away of Dr.S.Praveenkumar in Kerala road accident today and it had also pointed out that with his death, there is no permanent teaching faculty in that department in MKU now because all others are temporary faculty.

A condolence message was also issued by the Dravidian Ideology Teachers Association which was started recently from Madurai. “Dr.S.Praveenkumar is the treasurer of our association’s Madurai zone and he worked actively in his role. We are shocked to hear his death news, and that too at his young age. Our respects to his soul,” the DITA has said today evening.
