MADURAI: The changing dynamics of fresher job market and engineering careers must be thoroughly understood by students and colleges in the context of emerging technologies, career analyst and career consultant Mr.Jayaprakash Gandhi has said.

“Please understand how emerging technology in IT sector is reshaping India’s fresher job market and how the market isn’t shrinking, but it is shifting to new areas. If engineering students and engineering colleges are tuned to this reality, it will help the freshers find suitable jobs,” he said in his analysis about engineering careers which he had sent to ‘Lotus Times’ media in Madurai on October 3rd 2026.

GROWING SECTORS & SKILLS MISMATCH:

Pointing out that curricula is lagging behind industry, Mr.Jayaprakash Gandhi had observed that graduates these days know the theory but many of them lack hands-on cloud, data, AI/ML, security and system design skills.

“Demand for engineering freshers is growing in AI/ML, data engineering, embedded/VLSI, working with AI tools, cyber security and Cloud/DevOps. Entry roles now expect internships, projects, open-source work or certifications instead of raw freshers,” he said and cautioned that over a million engineers graduate each year in India with wide quality gaps, and when demand by IT companies softens, that mismatch becomes obvious.

TO HELP FRESHERS:

Mr.Jayaprakash Gandhi, who is a well-known career consultant with vast global experience, had advised the freshers and engineering colleges to put focus on real projects, master fundamentals (DSA, systems, databases + one modern area), use AI tools fluently as a productivity multiplier and get hands-on experience through internships and open-source work.

“TCS, Infosys, Wipro and others hired freshers in huge numbers for a pyramid model. AI productivity gains narrow that pyramid. This must be borne in mind in the backdrop of global slowdown when there is lower tech spending in the US and Europe. Over-hiring corrections are now taking place in companies thereby leading to cut in campus hiring. So, it is important for the freshers to check the reality and equip themselves to suit the reshaping India’s fresher job market,” he added.
