Good news soon for college teachers in Tamil Nadu?: Higher Education Minister’s assurance to AUT-MUTA team on CAS promotions pending issues

Higher Education Minister Mr.P.Viswanathan’s meeting with AUT-MUTA delegation in Chennai on June 10th 2026 to resolve pending CAS promotions issues for Govt-aided colleges teachers in Tamil Nadu.

MADURAI: Higher Education Minister of Tamil Nadu government Mr.P.Viswanathan has given a positive assurance that the long-pending issues of Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) promotions of teachers who are working in Government-aided colleges in the State will be resolved soon.

A delegation comprising Association of University Teachers (AUT) and MUTA from Madurai had a special meeting at the Secretariat in Chennai on June 10th 2026 where they explained to the Minister about CAS grievance that is affecting the teachers of government-aided colleges in Tamil Nadu and how the teaching fraternity is facing financial and professional hardships because of pending CAS issues.

“Our AUT-MUTA team had briefed the Higher Education Minister Mr.P.Viswanathan on how CAS benefits have remained pending for the past five years. We urged him to take steps for implementing the promotions and financial benefits of college teachers in government-aided colleges without further delay,” Dr.A.Xavior Selvakumar, AUT general secretary and Dr.A.T.Senthamarai Kannan, MUTA general secretary, have issued a joint press statement appreciating the prompt intervention by the Minister and Higher Education Department officials.

Stating that the Minister’s assurance has generated confidence among aided college teachers in the State, they pointed out that top officials including the Secretary to the government took serious note of the issues when the AUT-MUTA delegation had explained the issues to them.

“From the Higher Education Department, Mr.V.Arun Roy IAS and Mr.P.Ponniah IAS, Commissioner of Collegiate Education had participated in this meeting along with Mr.Raman, Joint Director of Collegiate Education (Finance) and other department senior officials. After hearing our delegation’s views in detail, the Higher Education Minister had assured that immediate steps would be taken to include CAS benefits in the monthly salary of eligible teachers and also for releasing the arrears,” the AUT-MUTA press release added.

The AUT-MUTA delegation in Chennai meeting on June 10th 2026 comprised Prof.J.Gandhiraj, AUT president, Dr.J.Charles, AUT treasurer, Dr.A.T.Senthamaraikannan, MUTA general secretary, Prof.R.Raja Jaya Sekar, MUTA treasurer and AUT regional representatives Mr.Anand, Mr.Rajasimman and Mr.Arun Vivek along with MUTA’s regional representative Mr.Sivagnanam,” the press release said while expressing its concerns of aided colleges teachers in Tamil Nadu right now on CAS promotion benefits implementation in monthly salary.
